Frequently
Asked
Questions

What effects will water damage and saturation have on my home?

Direct contact will cause drywall to sag and disintegrate, wood will begin to swell, buckle, warp, and rot, paint begins to bubble or peal, carpets become saturated causing delamination and will need to be removed, electrical items and outlets can begin to short out or malfunction becoming a possible fire or shock hazard. If water is from a contaminated source, it presents a serious health threat, AVOID ANY CONTACT and call a professional immediately. All excess water or moisture will promote the growth of mold, mildew and other contaminants, which can compromise the structural integrity of the materials and may also cause serious health issues.

How long will it take my property to dry?

Drying time is determined by a combination of factors, including the location, duration and source of water, the types of building materials, the weather conditions and how quickly emergency services begin. Through consistent monitoring and evaluation of the drying process, we can determine when the drying is complete. Your carpet may feel dry to the touch, but padding and subfloors may still be wet underneath. While there are no rules to determine how long your property will take to dry, but on average a home may take between three and five days, depending on the conditions.

Is there a reason to be concerned if the wall or cabinet behind the sink is warped, soft, or discolored?

YES. These are definitely signs of water damage that are most likely caused by the water supply behind the wall. If this has been going on for a period of time, there may be a mold problem behind the cabinet or wall. Quick Restore will help determining the extent of damage.

How safe is my house after the standing (visual) water is gone?

Water damage is not just about removing the water. Even if the water seems to have disappeared or has been extracted, there is still the potential for issues until the structure and affected materials have been completely and thoroughly dried. Mold becomes a problem in as little as 24 to 48 hours if structural drying is not in process.

If I filed a claim do I have to wait for an adjuster to come out before I call a restoration company?

No. If you are in the middle of an emergency, you are expected to do whatever you can to mitigate the problem to prevent further damage until you get your insurance company involved. If you can, stop the source of water, remove or separate any personal items and furniture from the damaged area and do what you can to remove the standing water. Also take lots of photos of the damage and do not throw anything away. If the customer knows they have coverage, we can extract the water and begin structural drying. For covered losses, reconstruction should wait until the adjuster has had a chance to assess the damage.

Will turning up the heat help dry things out?

Not necessarily. We will adjust the temperature to its optimum setting for the proper drying conditions. Please do not change the setting or shut off the HVAC system; doing so may prolong the drying process.

How do I know when my property is completely dry?

Proper testing with our specialized equipment is the correct way to determine if things are completely dry. Touch alone may be a false indicator.
